400 PPM

The Art

The Sketch

What’s Alarming

As of Feb 10, 2024 the global concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has reached 425.87 parts per million (ppm) for the first time in recorded history, more than 65% higher than pre-industrial levels of 280 ppm.

Current CO2 levels are more than 100 ppm higher than at any time in the last one million years, and may be higher than at any time in the last 25 million years.

The art uses the number 400 as its design element - representing a key milestone in US emissions history.
